WHY JOIN BPSHI

UCLA's Bhagat Puran Singh Health Initiative is dedicated to eliminating health disparities in socially disadvantaged populations within the greater LA area, especially focusing on the Punjabi community, whose health issues remain virtually unexplored.

Our Mission: Together advocate for community based wellness.

Our Vision: To empower communities invested in improving holistic health.

LEARN TO BE AN ACTIVIST

Our goal is to shape undergraduate students so that they are driven to initiate advocacy and inspire activism, even after graduating and moving on from their time in BPSHI.

Year-Round Opportunities:

  • Presentations and interactive discussions about critical and ignored topics in healthcare and the South Asian community

  • Guest-speaker events

  • Guidance in leading activism projects

  • Network of like-minded peers, graduate students, and medical professionals

GAIN REAL EXPERIENCES IN PUBLIC HEALTH

BPSHI Members have the opportunity to participate in experiences that will shape their understanding of public health in a real-world setting. This is especially beneficial to students who are navigating potential careers in the healthcare field.

Year-Round Opportunities:

  • Volunteer in data collection at pop-up clinics at different Gurudwaras within the vicinity of UCLA

  • Educate community members about the importance of wellness at health fairs

  • Participate in clinical training and learn how to collect basic vitals
